The desk

Just for Today is a reading room, not a school. Between 2000 and 2023 this domain carried the public pages of DovenStar, a small Reiki practice in Woburn, Massachusetts, founded by a practitioner who signed herself Starr B. Those pages held class descriptions, a session protocol, a grief-healing practice, a Monday evening clinic, and a shelf of plain explanations of what Reiki is. The school has since closed its site; the questions it answered have not gone anywhere.

Why the name

The site's name comes from the opening line of the Reiki ideals, the five precepts attributed to Mikao Usui: just for today, do not anger, do not worry, be grateful, work diligently, be kind to others. The school's archive carried those lines in English and in Japanese, morning and night, and they read like the instructions for keeping a reading room open.

What a shelf is

Each section here is a shelf of the room. The Tradition keeps the history and the lineages; The Table keeps what happens in a session; The Classroom keeps how Reiki was taught; The Quiet Room keeps meditation, grief work and the clinic evenings; The Notebook keeps the loose pages, the stories and the books the school cited.

What this site is not

This is not the school's website and not a Reiki practice. Nothing here books a session, sells a class, or speaks for the former practitioners. Names, dates, prices and phone numbers quoted in the entries belong to the historical record; they are kept as evidence, not as a way to reach anyone. The photographs on the plates are illustrations made for this reading room, not the school's own pictures.
